MARK AND MARTHA
Mark and Martha Mission are puppets who travel around the world
visiting our missionaries in order to learn about missions and then
report back to the children at Black Rock. Mark and
Martha’s mission is to stir interest and excitement about
missions among Black Rock’s preschool and elementary age children.
Their goal is to educate the children about:
- What is missions
- What is a missionary
- Where does a missionary go
- What does a missionary do
- What is it like to be an MK (missionary kid)
- Why does Black Rock support missions
- How does Black Rock support missions
- Who and what is a missions pastor
- How can we help our missionaries
Once a month, Mark and Martha visit Black Rock children
in their Sunday school classrooms to report where they have been
and who they have seen. They show a slide presentation
from the trip and display a small flag and any souvenirs they may
have brought back from their travels. In the classrooms, they
talk about what they learned and what was written in their travel
journal (by the missionaries). Prayer cards
featuring the country and host missionary family are also distributed.
Among other destinations, Mark and Martha have traveled
to South Africa, the Philippines, Indonesia, Niger, Panama, Kenya,
Niger, Taiwan, Brazil, Cambodia, Central African Republic and Eastern
Europe. They have visited orphans, brought relief to tsunami
victims, encouraged college students, ridden a camel while visiting
nomads and helped in a medical clinic.
After each presentation, the flags, journals, slide
show DVD, souvenir, and a few prayer cards are placed in a canvas
bag and left in the church library for the children to check out
and take home.
