Black Rock
Nursery School
“Train
up a child in the way he should go,
and even
when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Our nursery school was begun
in 1969 with the goal of providing a safe and happy environment for
preschoolers, while at the same time, through work and play, sharing
Christian values with them. Years later, we continue to see this as
our goal.
Black Rock Nursery Schools
Program Philosophy
Our program is designed to
develop the personality of each child by providing an educational experience
of lasting value. We provide a loving and caring atmosphere in a safe
and nurturing environment designed specifically for the needs of the
young child. The child is offered experiences that will develop large
and small muscle coordination and motor skills, along with exploring
and using firsthand experiences that will help to build an enthusiasm
for learning. The child is also encouraged to participate in group activities
and to get along with others. Each child can be expected to be treated
with respect. The child can try out ideas, express feelings, and know
that he or she will still be accepted and loved as a worthy individual.
We also respect families as the primary and most important providers
of care and nurturing for the child; we believe that parents and teachers
are partners in the child’s growth and development.
We believe that each child
is a gift from God and uniquely created; as childcare providers, we
are committed to you and your child. Our purpose is to assist you, as
parents in providing the best environment and care for your child, as
we encourage each of them in his or her own individual growth.
Our Curriculum Goals
Our goals are to help your
child develop:
- A healthy self-concept
which includes accepting himself/herself, feeling loved, wanted and
special
- The ability to socialize
with other children and to be kind and respectful to others
- A sense of security
with trustworthy and caring adults
- Motor, language
and cognitive skills leading to readiness for kindergarten
- Creative expression
in music, play and art
- An awareness of
God’s love
- The knowledge that
he/she is personally loved by Jesus
- An understanding
of the Bible as God’s truth, and to learn and apply simple Bible truths
to everyday life
Black Rock Nursery School does
provide a spiritual component in our curriculum. Your child will learn
that God made the world and all that is in it; that Jesus is the Savior;
and that Jesus loves him. Special times are set aside for Bible stories,
prayers, table graces, and songs of praise. Other experiences are also
important, like the teachers who share their love for God by their examples
and concern for others, and their thankfulness for all of His gifts.
Black Rock Nursery School
Program
Black Rock Nursery School offers
your preschool child a safe and nurturing environment where he or she
can learn, develop and grow. Christian values are taught through play
and by example. Our professional and loving staff have designed a physical
environment which is scaled to and planned for 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-year-old
children. A well-balanced, developmentally-appropriate curriculum has
been developed in order to encourage your child in his/her social, emotional,
physical, intellectual and spiritual development. The program is flexible
in order to meet the needs of each child, and the teacher/student ratio
is low to give personal attention. In the course of a typical day, these
activities may occur:
Free
Play Includes blocks, art, dress-up, kitchen corner, story corner,
play-dough, puzzles, games, easel painting, cooking, simple science
experiments and beginning writing activities
Gross
Motor Activities may involve playground free time, group games,
or various movement activities which provide muscle strengthening practice
in eye-hand coordination, and enhance the child’s control of his/her
whole body
Black Rock Nursery School offers
classes for two-, three- and four-year-olds, as well as a pre-kindergarten
program for five-year-olds. We also offer an extended Lunch Bunch program
for 4- and 5-year-olds on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. All our classes
